Dr Isioma Igweike
senior mentor
Dr Isioma Igweike joins NextGen for Earth as a Senior Mentor on a voluntary basis, generously contributing her time, lived experience, and commitment to supporting emerging professionals while continuing her work as a Resident Doctor within the NHS (UK).
Dr Igweike is an early-career clinician with developing expertise and strong interests in inclusive healthcare, medical education, and research. She holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education from the University of Warwick and has actively engaged in equity, equality, diversity, and inclusion initiatives through her former role as Student and Pre-Specialty Representative for the British Association for Sexual Health and HIV (BASHH) Racially Minoritised Communities Special Interest Group. In this capacity, she contributed to national steering meetings, advisory work on EEDI, and presented at a national conference.
Alongside her clinical practice, Dr Igweike has participated in academic research, including co-authoring a systematic review exploring the impact of climate change on healthcare workers. Her emerging interests sit at the intersection of health systems, education, equity, and climate-related challenges within healthcare delivery.
What distinguishes Dr Igweike is her deep commitment to supporting early-career professionals and individuals from underrepresented backgrounds. As someone navigating the early stages of her own medical and academic journey, she brings a relatable, peer-informed mentoring approach — encouraging young professionals to build confidence, pursue research opportunities, and step into leadership pathways.
At NextGen for Earth, Dr Igweike serves as a voluntary Senior Mentor, providing guidance on career development, early research engagement, and professional growth, while helping to strengthen the next generation of climate-conscious health leaders.
