Dr Dora Oduor
senior mentor
Dr. Dora Oduor is an Adjunct Professorial Lecturer in the College of Arts and Sciences at American University in Washington, DC. She joins NextGen for Earth as a voluntary Senior Mentor, dedicating her time to guiding NextGen youth in research development, qualitative research methodology, and critical analysis.
With an interdisciplinary background spanning Business Administration, International Affairs, and Sociology, Dr. Oduor brings a broad global perspective to examining the socio-cultural, socio-economic, and geopolitical factors that intersect to shape environmental conservation and sustainability efforts.
In an era of rapid technological and global transformation, Dr. Oduor is deeply committed to fostering youth engagement in the preservation and intergenerational transfer of cultural knowledge, particularly in relation to familial land stewardship and environmental responsibility. She advocates for the integration of Ubuntu philosophy as a framework for collective environmental preservation, encouraging NextGen youth to see themselves as interconnected custodians of both cultural heritage and ecological sustainability.
Dr. Oduor is especially passionate about documenting indigenous climate knowledge and supporting young scholars in studying, preserving, and translating community-based wisdom into evidence-informed climate discourse. She also seeks to examine the impact of extreme weather events on HIV and AIDS, exploring emerging challenges, health vulnerabilities, and potential mitigation strategies within climate-affected communities.
Through her mentorship, Dr. Oduor supports NextGen’s mission by nurturing thoughtful, community-rooted, and research-driven youth leaders committed to safeguarding the Earth for future generations.
